2nd annual Pee Dee a hit! - April 26, 2010

Thanks to everyone (audience, artists, organizers) who made our 2nd annual Pee Dee Blues Bash, April 23-24, Florence, SC such a big success. Brilliant performances from a host of int'l and homegrown USA artists - a few weather issues on Saturday morning - but WONDERFUL!

Mark your calendar for next year: April 8-9, 2011. We will also have some BIG news about two blues stages at the SC Pecan Festival, November 6, Florence, SC. The blues is alive in the Pee Dee!

SCS opening for Buddy Guy in Myrtle Beach - April 8, 2010

We've had the pleasure of "sharing the stage" (we call it "opening for") so many great artists: BB King, Bobby Blue Bland, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, etc. Now we get to add Buddy Guy to that list: Saturday, May 1 at the Myrtle Beach MayFest (Art & Film Celebration). Should be a ball!

We took some time off after the Blues Bash...whew! but now back hot & heavy. Pls join us at some of the next shows...gonna be fun. New albums (band and solo) in the works.

Blues & BBQ Harbor Cruises begin soon - March 2, 2010

Our regular season begins April 15 (every other Thursday, with a cruise EVERY week during July and August). However, please join us for two special cruises Thurs March 25 and Sat March 27 to coincide with the Cooper River Bridge Run...'Cue up BEFORE and AFTER the Run!

Re-run of Michael Feldman's "Whaddya Know?" (NPR, recorded in Clemson) - January 2, 2010

Thanks to Michael and the crew for re-running that show with Wanda Johnson & Shrimp City Slim. We recorded it at Clemson some months ago, re-run today nationally. Folks in Detroit and Arkansas (and elsewhere) have written to say they heard it. NICE.

Blues Bash: workin' with the ladies - December 27, 2009

We'll be doing shows with a number of talented female artists at this year's 20th annual Lowcountry Blues Bash: DieDra (Birmingham, AL) who has a song on the Top 20 Beach/Shag charts; Wanda Johnson (of course), "The New Voice of South Carolina soul & blues"; and the legendary Beverly Guitar Watkins from Atlanta (played guitar in the band of Piano Red in the early 1960s). for full sched/line-up updated momentarily.

What about this "1st annual Charleston Blues Festival"? - November 10, 2009

Folks have asked about the Steve Simon Presents show called "Charleston Blues Festival" which happens one night during our 20th annual Blues Bash upcoming in Charleston.

We have NOTHING to do with this show, but are putting it in the brochure/schedule as a courtesy. He is bringing in Shemekia Copeland, Zac Harmon, and Billy Gibson and charging $35 per ticket.

Our shows are either FREE or modest cover charges $3-15. Watch for Blues Bash finalized soon.

Erwin Music artist "Tony & Company" returns to Italy - October 24, 2009

Late Dec/early Jan tour of Italy, organized by Slang Music. (some dates already announced). NEWS: Jerome Griffin returns to the band on bass/music director. Friends will remember Jerome from the SCS band circa 1995-2000 and the last two Wanda Johnson albums.

Always a great time. This year, Nov 13 Friday, we will be performing (with Juke Joint Johnny as leader) on a bill with Bob Margolin and Cyril Neville. Should be a throwdown.

Dr Pickup touring going great - September 28, 2009

We had a blast yesterday, doing our interlude between sets by legendary hippie rocker Jesse Colin Young, at Green Fair in Charleston. Stormed up to Pawleys Island Tavern to do the 8pm-midnight show. Good time with lots of Solid Gold Dancers. The fun continues this week Mon-Wed here in Charleston before heading to Camden for the 13th annual Downhome Blues Fest. You should be there!
