Meeting Street Sheiks vids now up on YouTube - October 26, 2010

One of our guitarists, Fingers Fenneaux, has posted four videos of The Meeting Street Sheiks on YouTube (search the name of the band), recorded at the Julius Daniels Memorial Blues Festival, October 23, in Denmark, SC. Two JD numbers ("99 Years Blues", "Richmond Blues"), "See See Rider", and "Johnny's Breakdown". This is our new acoustic pre-war/trad blues project. Yes, that's Washboard Tony on the far right!

1st annual Julius Daniels Memorial Blues Festival was a blast! - October 24, 2010

Yesterday in Denmark, SC, honoring the first SC bluesman to record (1927), Julius Daniels, born (1902) in Denmark. Beverly Guitar Watkins, Hitman, Drink Small (who received a certiicate of recognition from Denmark Tech, where he studied barbering in 1953), Shrimp City Slim, and new acoustic pre-war guys The Meeting Street Sheiks. The community was very responsive and everyone had a ball. News coming soon on plans for 2011. Stay tuned!

Radio interviews, workshops, club shows in Manila - October 15, 2010

Thanks to harmonica ace Tom "Tomcat" Colvin, I will be in Manila (Philippines) Nov 16-19 for a burst of gigs before the Taiwan Blues Bash. Looking forward to working with Tom again, an excellent harp player who sat in with the SCS band a few years ago at various venues in Charleston. Another SCS song about to be covered - August 30, 2010

Super singer/guitarist/keyboardist Rickey Godfrey (originally from Upstate SC but now living in Nashville) is covering "Allergic to Mink" on his new blues CD "Nasty Man" due out this fall. We heard the first tracking...some altered lyrics (it's a gender thing) and a switched-up groove (straight-ahead, not shuffle) stuff! Thanks, Rickey!

Thanks to the Pocono Blues Festival - July 26, 2010

...for hosting us & Wanda Johnson at this past weekend's 19th annual. Both of our shows (noon on the Main Stage, 8 pm in the tent) on Saturday were well-received & we sold a lot of CDs. Thanks, everyone! We had the thrill of meeting Smoky Robinson on our ATL/PHL flight and Mavis Staples at our hotel. What a great event and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. Thanks again to Professor Bottleneck (with Wim Geraets, bass, and Ben Paulssen, drums) for a handful of fun gigs in Germany and Holland. Now in Paris for five nights with Wanda Johnson and our SC-based band at the Hotel Meridien Etoile. Beach/shag/blue-eyed soul legends cover SCS song - May 6, 2010

The Mike Tronco Band (Mike was/is lead singer of legendary SC band "The Sensational Epics" - in biz since 1963; they cut the first version of "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" well before The Tams) has done a bang-up interpretation of "Good Good Love" (from SCS's 1998 CD "I Work Nights") and will release it on their new album. Thank you, sir!
